About Carl Weissinger

Carl Weissinger (b. 1949) is a Wilmington-born cabinetmaker, boatbuilder, and pastel artist. He holds a BA in International Relations/Political Science and History from Colgate University, and a MA in South Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Demonstrating a love for the arts at an early age, Weissinger honed his woodworking skills by spending summers in his 20s at a boatyard on the Chesapeake Bay, working under the tutelage of boatmaster Cecil Hughes. This experience led him to start his own fine custom woodworking business, The Woodwrights, which he ran for 25 years in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood. While later crafting high end doors, windows, and architectural woodwork at Tague Lumber’s Phoenixville mill shop, he reconnected with his love of boating and began building classic small boats. Upon his retirement, he developed an ongoing passion for pastels, with a focus on landscapes and Pennsylvania architecture. Weissinger is active with Face to Face, a Germantown-based multi-service organization that offers free human services to more than 2,500 low income and homeless individuals each year. He is a former president and active member of the Delaware River Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association. Weissinger lives with his wife Theresa just outside of Philadelphia in Wyndmoor, PA.
